Visceral Manipulation Online Dissection Anatomy Comparison Courses with Gil Hedley, Ph.D.
Do you want to learn more about the visceral system?
NEW – Gil Hedley’s Visceral Manipulation Online Dissection Anatomy Companion courses
Brought to you by The Barral Institute (BI) in collaboration with Gil Hedley, these companion courses includes videos of dissection that illuminate the structure and relationships of the Visceral System.
Visceral Manipulation 1
Companion Course
Estimated course time: 3 hours
This course includes an exploration and dissection of the visceral membranes (peritoneum) as well as structures such as the diaphragm, colon, greater and lesser omentum, appendix, small intestine, liver, gallbladder, stomach, duodenum, pancreas, and spleen. This course also explores abdominal space structures such as visceral adhesions, ligament of Treitz, the superior mesenteric artery, the portal vein, Glisson’s capsule, hepatic artery and vein, and the hepatoduodenal, gastrophrenic, phrenicocolic, and hepatogastric ligaments. See more learning objectives below.
Visceral Manipulation 2
Companion Course
Estimated course time: 5.5 hours
This course expands upon the content from Visceral Manipulation 1 companion course and includes videos of dissection that illuminate the structure and relationships of the diaphragm, kidneys, adrenal glands, spleen, pancreas, greater and lesser omentum, and the parietal peritoneum. Through these videos, participants will gain a better understanding of these structures in-situ and their relationships so their surrounding tissues. Other landmarks identified include the hepatorenal ligament, adrenal vein and artery, renal fat, hilum of kidney, omental bursa, ureters, portal vein, hepatic artery, common bile duct, and the fundus, cardiac, and pyloric portions of the stomach. Participants will also explore the membranes of the abdominal cavity in more detail, including distinguishing between the transversalis fascia, peritoneum, and fascia propria. See more learning objectives below.
Each companion course will also include a syllabus and quiz. Through this experience, participants will gain an understanding of the continuities, connections, and relationships between these named structures and their surrounding tissues. Structures will also be compared to provide an appreciation for the diversity and range of anatomical expression. Through cultivating a greater appreciation of the human form, participants will be better able to apply their anatomical knowledge to their bodywork and movement practices.

About Gil Hedley
Gil started out his adult learning journey at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago, studying for his Ph.D. in Theological Ethics. During that time he also became a Certified Rolfer and spent five years studying psychodynamics and energy healing in NYC; he has been an avid student of personal and spiritual development his whole life. His combined interests and training have supported his personal exploration of the human body and led him to develop an integral approach to the study of human anatomy.
Over the past 27 years, he has led hundreds of hours of hands-on human dissection workshops in the laboratory. Through this in-person work, as well as keynote presentations and online programs, he has encouraged thousands of fellow “somanauts” to appreciate, explore, and embody the wonders of the human form.
